From the Quarterlife Bookshelf: "The Animators"

I am always looking for books that illuminate the Quarterlife experience, or simply make it easier through wisdom, guidance, or good story-telling.

This week from my Quarterlife Bookshelf, I am happy to share with you “The Animators”: the extraordinary page-turner by Kayla Rae Whitaker.

ONE OF THE BEST DEBUT NOVELS OF THE YEAR
— Entertainment Weekly
ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR
— NPR, Kirkus Reviews, BookPage

“The Animators” portrays two quarterlifers, Mel Vaught and Sharon Kisses, with rare psychological complexity, following them from their meeting at art school to a thriving and fraught partnership as female animators in a male dominated industry.

We’re always looking for books that you don’t want to put down. This is one of those books. It gets in the way of normal plans. You’ll want to take a day off of work and stay curled-up with this book. I am in awe of Whitaker’s capacity to render these characters, Mel and “Kisses”, and oh so grateful that she did.
